Prof. Dr. Fakhr-ul-Islam, Director Pakistan Study Centre University of Peshawar addressed the International Day of Peace seminar at Shelton’s Green Hotel Peshawar on Sept. 21, 2016. The seminar was organized by Pakistan Council of World Religions. The function was attended by Muslims, Christians, Hindus and Sikhs including, the Iranian Counsel General, Bishop of Peshawar, academicians, elected representatives, ulama and members of civil society. Prof. Dr. Qibla Ayaz, former Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar presided over the seminar. Prof. Dr. Fakhr-ul-Islam said that Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance. He said that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) provided opportunity of worship to Christians in the Masjid-e-Nabavi which shows his tolerance towards other religions. He said that peace can only be guaranteed if we tolerate each other and that the golden principle of “Live and let live” is the only key to peace and tranquility. He further said that Pakistan is passing through a very crucial phase of its history therefore we need peace more than any other country.
Director Pakistan Study Centre University of Peshawar Prof. Dr. Fakhr-ul-Islam read out paper at Hamdard Foundation Seminar held at Peshawar Club. The theme of his presentation was “Ideology of Pakistan and National Integration”. Hamdard Foundation chairperson and daughter of Hakeem Saeed, Miss Sadia Rashid presided over the seminar. Dr. Fakhr-ul-Islam gave a background of origin and evolution of Pakistan’s ideology. He said that Allama Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had very rationally convinced the Indian Muslims that their emancipation lies in a separate homeland. He said that that Iqbal’s address of Allahabad and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s presidential address at the Lahore Resolution session 1940, explicitly explain ideology of Pakistan. Dr. Fakhr said that adherence to ideology of Pakistan enabled us to get a separate homeland, and it can guarantee the strengthening of Pakistan. He stressed the need for national integration which stems from tolerance and prejudice-free society.
Pakistan Study Centre University of Peshawar and its counterpart at University of Sindh, signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The signing ceremony was held in Jamshoro on August 9, 2016, during the visit of Prof. Dr. Fakhr-ul-Islam Director Pakistan Study Centre University of Peshawar. Prof. Dr. Farzana Baloch, Director Pakistan Study Centre University of Sindh, Jamshoro signed from her centre’s side. The Regional Director Higher Education Commission Karachi, Mr. Muhammad Suleman and Senior Research Fellow National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research Islamabad, Dr. Sajid Awan were also present on the occasion. Both the partners agreed to exchange students, Faculty and publications. They also decided to hold joint seminars, conferences and training programmes. Dr. Fakhr-ulIslam also called on the Dean of Social Sciences Ms. Nagina and Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro.
